About Experience Laughter Yoga

I’m David Vass, a Laughter Yoga International certified trainer, facilitator and teacher, living in Indianapolis and traveling locally, nationally, internationally and on cruise lines, turning people on to the Laughter Yoga movement, which is now practiced in over 120 countries, yay!

The practical purpose of Laughter Yoga (LY) is to laugh in a group, for no reason at all, while performing some mild physical movement (usually standing up) and deep breathing. You see, it is not possible to laugh without exhaling the air in your lungs.  By exhaling, you are ridding yourself of carbon monoxide and emptying the lungs to inhale new breaths that then add oxygen to the blood. Try this - attempt to laugh while inhaling at the same time. You can’t! You’ll make some weird sounds, but it is not laughing. We can only laugh when we exhale. And that’s the ‘yoga part’ of LY - breathing. There is no twisting yourself into a pretzel or learning various body positions on the floor. When we laugh, and especially when we belly laugh, we exhale stale breath which helps clean out our lungs. Then we inhale to capture fresh air in our lungs that oxygenates our blood, which helps create more energy, endorphins, serotine and dopamine. Very Good, Very Good, Ho Ho, Ha Ha Ha!

The laughter part of LY is also simple. I create various pictures and thoughts in the minds of the group that make you laugh. We have a saying in LY – ‘Fake it til you make it!’ I once considered myself a silent laugher. You may feel that way too.  Don’t worry, LY has you covered. The brain does not know the difference between fake laughter and genuine laughter!  Many scientific studies confirm this. The brain has no sense of humor, just as your computer has none. Whatever you ‘feed’ your brain is what programs it. With LY, you don’t need a comedian, a sit-com or a pratfall! We laugh, as a group, for no reason at all! Once you are drawn into this simulated laughter, it can rapidly become genuine. When someone sneezes, you are often triggered to also sneeze - same with laughter – we ‘fake it til we make it’. Our brains can’t tell the difference, so the positive results come to us because when the brain thinks it’s laughing, it produces all kinds of goodies!

Below is a short video that gives you a visual taste of what LY groups look like during a session. LY is for all ages. The Experience Laughter Yoga program has been used in public parks, prisons, eldercare, schools, hospitals, police departments, neighborhood parties, birthday gatherings, corporate retreats and for team building – those are only a few of the situations where LY can be beneficial, easy and fun. Take a ‘Brain Break’ – reset, rewire, reinvigorate your mind, body and energy! Ha Ha! Very Good!

LY is not a religion, cult or organization that requires membership or dues. It exists to laugh for no reason at all, in a group. Children laugh 300-400 times a day while adults often only laugh 3-4 times daily. LY is about to change that for you, and you’ll feel the results almost immediately! It’s a 40-minute investment of your time to come away happy and invigorated, and guess what? Most of the public sessions are 100% free! You need only show up on time and in comfy clothes. My contact information is on the last page of the site, and I monitor all incoming emails and will happily answer any of your questions. Now, please watch the videos! Very Good, Very Good, Ha Ha, Ho Ho, Yay!
